COVID-19 SITUATION IN BAGUIO CITY
With the ongoing third surge and the start of the cold season, Baguio City is overwhelmed by the number of positive cases and is still expected to be besieged with this pandemic during the coming cold months. All hospitals in Baguio City and La Trinidad, Benguet are full as of October 2021 with a very long queue of COVID positive still awaiting to be admitted. Moderate COVID cases are admitted for a minimum of 2 weeks, while severe cases last for several months. Many are needing treatment considering that the additional quarantine and step down facilities are also full to the brim. Thousands of positive cases are still in their homes without the benefit of a pulse oximeter. Hospitals and healthcare workers are all crying for a time out.
COVID-19 SITUATION IN BAGUIO CITY
At present, Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC), the designated COVID Hospital in Baguio City can't accommodate 300 COVID patients due to social distancing. BGHMC was at 90-100 capacity as of the third week of October.
Other hospitals such as Notre Dame De Chartres, Saint Louis University Hospital of the Sacred Heart and Pines City Doctors Hospital have allotted 20-25% of the total bed capacity for COVID Cases, in order to accept other conditions such as obstetrics, pediatrics, gynecology, surgery, trauma and internal medicine for heart, kidney, pulmonary and endocrine diseases.
CALL FOR BAYANIHAN
Despite the city's preparedness and good leadership, city as it is has no more funds. This is the time for BAYANIHAN!
First batch of oxygen cylinders complete with regulators and some oxygen concentrators are already ordered directly from a supplier. They are expected to arrive in the country by the end of October 2021.
All Oxygen cylinders will be filled with oxygen once turned over to the City government through the City Mayor for proper and equal distribution.
